Exterior Masonry Coating Specifications — Concrete/Stucco

SURFACE PREPARATION: The surface must be clean, dry, sound and free of grease, dirt, oil, mildew, chalk, laitance, efflorescence and release agents. *1Allow new masonry to cure 30 days, or a minimum of 7 days when the coating systems below are used. Remove projections and mortar spatter from concrete and loose stucco. On previously painted surfaces, remove loose peeling paint back down to a sound coating. Apply a test patch over previously painted surfaces to assure compatibility.

NOTE:*1 The use of alkali-resisting surface conditioners and/or special masonry coatings (such as those listed on the proceeding page) allow for earlier applications of coating systems with less cure of the masonry.
*2 It has been our experience that thick films of elastomeric or texture coatings, even those made with 100% acrylic resin, are susceptible to fading when shaded to deep or dark colors. Duron therefore recommends our (thinner film) Exterior Design Accents 100% Acrylic Semi-Gloss or Velvet Flat Finishes or our Interior/Exterior Design Accents 100% Acrylic Satin or Semi-Gloss Finishes, over elastomeric or texture coatings when dark color accent walls or stripes are desired.
*3 It is acceptable to use either Duron Maxflex 100% Acrylic Elastomeric Coatings or Duron Dura Crete HP Exterior 100% Acrylic Masonry Finish directly on new uncoated concrete and stucco when the pH of the surface is not greater than 13, and if these coatings are not shaded with organic colorants.
*4 One (1) coat of Duron Dura Crete High Build Solventborne Coating, Smooth, applied at 80 - 90 s.f./gallon and in a manner to render the dry film "pinhole free", will waterproof a smooth surface.
*5 This product can be used on both vertical and horizontal surfaces. For vertical surfaces, apply two (2) coats with 2 to 4 hours drying between coats. For horizontal surfaces, apply only one (1) coat.
